FEBRUARY:
…dare we wish that spring is on it’s way? For a few weeks the daffodils and bluebells have been poking up through the damp soil. Now the rain and wind have subsided they look slightly less out of place! We decided this week that it would be safe to seed the bare patches (which are rather substantial) on the tent pitch areas. A nice easy job – except once the grass seed is laid and topped with a sprinkling of home-made compost it becomes very attractive to chickens who like nothing better than eating the seeds and digging holes in the fresh soil! We’ve tried two different methods of chicken protection on the three patches – piles of branches (pictured) and sheets of clear polythene. We also need to re-seed the goose pen – we’ll need eyes in the back of our heads for that one or we might get nipped!!
