MARCH: What lovely weather we’ve had lately! We’ve been able to get lots of work done outside in this marvellous weather – heaps more pruning, planting & grass seeding – and we also had a chance to give all of Dragonfly yurt’s bones a lovely coat of linseed oil ready for the new season. We even had time to take an afternoon off to celebrate Mark’s birthday! We decided to take advantage of the great weather and have a stroll around Minsmere RSPB reserve. What a treat that was! It turns out that the lovely team at Minsmere have also been busy bees – and over the last few months have built a wonderful new kids’ area. Fantastic interactive sculptures and lots of places for climbing and hiding and imaginary play. As soon as Mark spotted the ‘sand martin tunnels’ he was straight in there! It’s not all just for younger kids though – there is a brilliant den building area in the woods, from which we heard squeals of delight. We saw and heard a bittern (and the nice chap in the hide offered me a look through his telescope) and we stayed until dusk to watch the amazing spectacle of the starling murmuration. It’s great not only to get to experience the joys this area has to offer but also to be able to give first hand up-to-date advice to guests about what to do locally. Minsmere definitely comes very highly recommended!
